Is it possible procrastination is your best friend?
You know that feeling we all get when we are supposed to do something? We know we SHOULD get up and do it but we don’t even feel like it. Thats procrastination… putting it off, putting it off and putting it off ad nauseam.
Why do we do that? What is the mechanism behind the dragging feet? What if it is our inner being, higher self, whatever you call it trying to send us a message? Wouldn’t you want to hear it?
I believe that is in fact the case. Like walking out to pick a green tomato from the vine we are rushing things. If we just wait until the tomato is red and ripe there is joy in the picking of it. Picking it earlier requires waiting for it to ripen off the vine. That involves a whole lot more attention and energy to be invested in the enjoyment of that tomato.
In contrast, when we wait until the time is right, or the tomato is ripe, the benefits are immediate and so fulfilling. Thats the message from our inner being when we are struck by the procrastination syndrome. If we tune in and appreciate and value the message that the timing isn’t right we simplify our lives. This in turn reduces our stress and frees up time to fully engage and enjoy our lives.
They taught me in college that 20% of my effort gave me 80% of my results. The question was how do you know what the 20% is? Procrastination answers that question. Wait for the tomato to be ripe. You’ll know when its time to act. Trust that and let procrastination be the best friend it was meant to be.
